PRECONFERENCE WORKSHOP

The 2018 BCCE is hosting preconference workshops -- The American Modeling Teachers Association (AMTA) Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 workshops. The workshops will begin on July 16 and conclude on July 27 -- just in time to participate in the BCCE starting on Sunday, July 29.

The Chemistry 1 and Chemistry 2 workshops run concurrently for the two week session -- in other words you will take either Chemistry 1 or Chemistry 2 in this summer. The Chemistry 1 course will be taught by Ray Howanski, while Chemistry 2 will be taught by Larry Dukerich. Laura Slocum will serve as a second instructor in each course.

Workshop Fee

The workshop fee ($600 -- though we are looking for underwriters to bring this cost down) covers the cost of the instruction, the AMTA licensing fee, assessments, and printed materials. Participants will be given a one-year membership in AMTA for attending the workshop. Facilities and chemicals are being furnished by Notre Dame.

Room and Meal Plans:

Housing will be in the Notre Dame residence halls.

Housing will be $55 per night (double occupancy)/ $66 per night (single occupancy) in air conditioned residence halls

Blankets, sheets, and towels are provided during your stay. Lavatories and showers are shared in common with separate men's and women's facilities on each floor. There is no provision for more than two persons per room. Requests for adjoining rooms cannot be guaranteed, but will be honored if possible. No minors or pets are allowed to stay in residence hall rooms.

Meal plan should be about $240 for a block of 20 meals in South Dining Hall.

Registration

The registration will be located on the BCCE registration page when that goes live in mid-Feburary.

Graduate Credits for the PRE-Conference Workshop (only)

We are working with AMTA to offer 3 cr of graduate work in education from Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU). Tuition would be $375 for the course along with a $40 application fee and $10 registration to AMTA for the credits. Registration for the graduate credits would need to happen by 1 May 2018. Graduate credit transcripts would be available after 1 Oct 2018. Additional information and links will be posted here once we have been formally approved to offer the workshop for credit.

CONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Below is a list of workshops that have been approved for the 25th BCCE. They will be offered assuming that minimum enrollments set by the workshop leaders are met. You must register for these workshops using the online conference registration system. NOTE - This is a tentative schedule and subject to change. This site will be kept up to date as we progress through the registration process.

When scheduling workshops, please keep in mind that these are running concurrently with symposia. So please check the symposia schedule to make sure that you are not scheduling workshops at the same time that you want to attend talks on your favorite topics.

Workshops

Recent BCCE have had over 100 workshop sessions.

Typically workshops are half-day sessions. These may be lab-based, computer-based, hands-on discussions, etc.

When scheduling workshops, please keep in mind that these are running concurrently with symposia. So please check the symposia schedule to make sure that you are not scheduling workshops at the same time that you want to attend talks on your favorite topics.

There is usually a minimal cost in attending the workshop -- $10 to $50 per session to cover costs of materials and equipment.
